In no other work did Walther set forth his own theology as comprehensively as he did here. This volume is especially significant for its teaching on predestination and its defense of Lutheran doctrine as that which gives “all glory to God”.
Walther’s mature theology was presented as a collection of convention essays at LCMS Western District conferences (including Missouri and other western states) from 1873 to 1886; these ended shortly before his death. Now for the first time, these various works are gathered into one complete volume.
